Gardening Programs

• The American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta is the association for North American public gardens and their professional staff.

• American Horticultural Society provides sources of information on gardening and horticulture.

• The National Gardening Association is a nonprofit organization established to help gardeners, and to help people through gardening.

• The Rodale Institute works with people worldwide to achieve a regenerative food system that renews environmental and human health.

Intergenerational

• Generations United provides a forum for those working with children, youth, and the elderly to explore areas of common ground while celebrating the richness of each generation.

• The Environmental Alliance for Senior Involvement is a coalition of organizations established to increase opportunities for older adults to play an active, visible role in protecting and improving the environment in their communities

Science Careers

• Science Career Information lists websites and other resources for students interested in science careers. The list has been compiled by Pat Viele at Cornell University.

• USDA Living Science provides information on careers in food, agriculture, and natural resources.

Science Education

• ActionBioscience.org is an education resource of the American Institute of Biological Sciences that is promoting literacy in the biosciences by featuring articles and class lessons in the areas of biodiversity, environment, genomics, biotechnology, evolution, new frontiers, and bioscience education. (Spanish translations of select articles are also available.)

• The American Association for the Advancement of Science is an international non-profit organization dedicated to advancing science around the world by serving as an educator, leader, spokesperson and professional association.

• Cornell Science Inquiry Partnerships is a program in which graduate students work with secondary teachers to enhance inquiry learning and update science and engineering content taught in rural and urban schools.

• Environmental Inquiry is a website and curriculum series developed at Cornell University to help students conduct environmental science research and participate in communities of fellow student scientists.

• The National Science Foundation The National Science Foundation is an independent Federal agency that supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering. NSF's Web site will show you the cutting edge of science and engineering research.

• The Value of a Garden is a lesson posted at ActionBioscience.org that engages students in critical thinking about the value of botanical, community, and other gardens in preserving biodiversity and in contributing to sustainable communities.

Youth Programs

• Agriculture in the Classroom is a program coordinated by the United States Department of Agriculture. Its goal is to help students gain a greater awareness of the role of agriculture in the economy and society.

• Discovering the Food System is a guided experiential learning program designed primarily for youth ages 12 to 18, and meant for anyone who is curious about food, and how it gets from farm to table.

• The Food Project is an urban agriculture program for teens in the Boston area. Based on their experiences they offer curriculum books such as French Fries and the Food System on connecting young people with agriculture.

• The Junior Master Gardener Program is a 4-H gardening project featuring curriculum for grades 3-8.

• Kidsgardening.com is a subsidiary of the National Gardening Association and offers a range of information and curriculum materials for anyone involved in youth gardening. The website is particularly suited for teachers and those involved in school gardens.

• Kidsregen.org is part of The Rodale Institute's Youth Educational Program. Its goal is empowering children to make healthy choices for the environment, and for themselves. Contains "Families" and "Educators" areas, including news, lesson plans, and downloadable activities.

• Kids Growing Food gets kids growing food at school. By digging into all aspects of food gardening, students learn directly about edible plants.

• National 4-H Council provides grants, establishes programs, designs and publishes curriculum and reference materials, and creates linkages fostering innovation and shared learning.
